The Old Byre Home / Gianni Botsford Architects
Briefly

The Old Byre, located on a ridge in West Cowes, Isle of Wight, is a thoughtful conversion of two farm buildings into a home and workspace for artists. The design prioritizes retaining the original structures, encasing them in modern materials like corrugated cement board while preserving the interior's character. The separate buildings promote interaction between private and communal areas, enhanced by a striking translucent facade and spacious entrances. The design reflects a transition from animal habitation to a human-centric living environment, emphasizing communal, artistic, and environmental elements in modern architecture.
The project prioritizes the retention of the interior of old barns, transforming them into a home and creative space while maintaining their historical essence.
The Old Byre features a translucent polycarbonate facade and large glazed aluminum doors, which offer a modern interpretation of traditional farm architecture.
