Tate Britain's uneven but captivating look at the 1980s
Briefly

The exhibition does, however, feel as if you're looking at the decade through someone else's eyes—literally—with the medium of photography capturing emotional and social themes.
From the AIDS crisis to Greenham Common protests to black and female artists, it's a mélange of styles and emotions that reflect the complexities of the 1980s.
This exhibition attempts to tell the story of a decade of change, accessing themes from deep poverty to emerging freedoms, viewed through the lens of photography.
My gripe is that it's almost too much—wandering through, you're jumping mentally all over the place, suggesting that smaller, focused exhibitions might have been more effective.
