Minimal Blades Flutter in the Breeze in a Shoreline Installation on China's Chaishan Island
Briefly

The Seaside Pavilion, completed in 2023 by GN Architects, is an innovative installation on Chaishan Island, designed to attract tourists and encourage migration. Its blades react to the wind, enhancing the scenic coastal experience and providing shaded areas. The installation was part of a government initiative to rejuvenate the island, once a fishing community with dwindling residents. Built to withstand extreme weather, the pavilion features sturdy materials, ensuring its longevity while adding beauty to the landscape.
During the day, the leaves are closed. In the morning and evening, when the tide starts to rise, the wings open and dance under the drive of the buoy, forming a romantic and magical scene.
The Seaside Pavillion was commissioned by the Zhoushan government's "Hello, Island" initiative to attract more people to move to the sparsely populated area.
