An Unexpected Jolt of Chartreuse in This Brooklyn Townhouse's Kitchen Made It, Surprisingly, Feel More Like Home
Briefly

In a Brooklyn townhouse, designers reimagined a stark, industrial box into a warm, welcoming home with gentle curves. Initially designed by Paik Architecture, the layout features three bedrooms and was optimized by Unionworks for functionality, aiming to create a seamless flow between rooms for a family of four. Designer Poonam Khanna emphasized the importance of scale, suggesting that the experiences of compression and expansion evoke different feelings in each space. The main living area, which posed significant challenges due to its height and horizontal constraints, was meticulously designed to feel cozy despite having multiple designated activities nearby.
When we first visited, the space was an open, industrial, modern box, with a Paul Rudolph kind of vibe.
It was important to us to balance that experience so it didn't feel so jarring.
We limited the furnishings down to the essentials and allowed for space all around them so you don't feel like things are on top of one another.
