Snack maker behind Pop-Tarts and Cheez-It acquired by Mars in deal worth nearly $36B
Briefly

The deal between Mars and Kellanova, worth nearly $36 billion, will enhance Mars' portfolio with popular brands like Cheez-It and Pop-Tarts, as well as MorningStar Farms.
Andrew Clarke, Mars Snacking Global President, emphasized that the acquisition significantly expands their Snacking platform to better meet consumer needs and drive profitable growth.
According to Erin Lash, the deal stems from waning growth in the packaged foods sector, which has seen a slowdown post-pandemic as consumers face financial constraints.
Lash noted that while there is unlikely to be antitrust concerns due to little overlap, the merger could lead to innovative snack products through brand collaborations.
