A driver and his dog were rescued from a car that had fallen 30 feet down a hillside in Sierra County after nearly 22 hours trapped. The crash was reported early on March 5, with the driver having lost control of the vehicle around 2 p.m. the previous day due to inattention. Emergency responders removed the driver using mechanical equipment, and while he sustained serious injuries, his dog was unharmed. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and reminding drivers to be vigilant on the road.
Using mechanical equipment, first responders extricated the driver after nearly an hour. He was then transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with serious injuries.
The driver told officers he had crashed around 2 p.m. the previous day after he 'just wasn't paying attention and went off the road.'
Wishing the patient a full and speedy recovery, Graeagle Fire wrote. Meanwhile, the dog appeared unharmed and was released into the care of a friend.
CHP urged drivers to stay vigilant, writing, 'Please remember the responsibility we all have to each other when operating these rolling hunks of metal.'
