The electric vehicle (EV) market has been revitalized in the 21st century, with more than 70 models now available in the US, leading to record sales. In 2023, Americans drove home 1.2 million EVs, a significant rise from only 50,000 in 2013.
Historically, electric vehicles were more popular than gas-powered ones at the beginning of the 20th century. However, their higher costs and shorter ranges led to a decline in their market share as gasoline-powered cars became more convenient.
