State Police say Ronald Canfield, a 35-year-old man from Fulton, drove into the gas station erratically and pulled up behind a vehicle pumping gas.
Canfield then jumped into the driver's seat, trying to steal the vehicle that also had a 1-year-old child in the back passenger's seat.
After realizing there were no keys in the ignition, Canfield got back into his vehicle and drove away, said NYSP.
Canfield is charged with Unlawful fleeing of a police officer, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Obstruct Governmental Administration, Attempted Grand Larceny, and Endangering the welfare of a child.
