The ACEA reported a 2.4 percent increase in October battery-electric vehicle registrations compared to September, but a significant 4.9 percent drop in year-to-date volumes compared to 2023.
Despite the monthly rise for EVs, the year-to-date volume indicates a lack of customer urgency for pure electric vehicles, with registrations significantly impacted by Germany's 26.6 percent decline.
While registrations for battery electric vehicles increased modestly, hybrid electric vehicles saw a remarkable 17.5 percent rise in October, now capturing more market share than petrol cars.
The overall market share for battery electric vehicles is at 14.4 percent with the ACEA suggesting that perceived higher costs compared to traditional vehicles are slowing adoption rates.
