Angela Beatty, chief leadership and HR officer at Accenture, emphasizes that today’s career paths vary widely and long-term employment with one company is less common. However, a pattern of short stints on a resume, particularly roles lasting a year or less, raises concerns among hiring managers about a candidate's potential for commitment and impact. Hiring managers, per a LinkedIn survey, find frequent job changes as potential red flags. Beatty advises jobseekers to provide context for short jobs, especially within a single company or due to promotion or contract work, to mitigate any negative perceptions.
Over the course of, say, 10 years, if you see a pattern of short roles, that stands out. It makes me question if they're able to gain some traction and collaborate and work with others in a way that would enable them to stay at a place long enough to make an impact.
Seeing that a candidate frequently changed jobs could prevent them from moving forward with them. It makes them think, if you were only there for nine months, maybe you'll only be here for nine months.
