Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders is urging the UK Government to lower VAT on new electric vehicles, revise plans for vehicle excise duty on EVs, and reduce VAT on public EV charging to encourage adoption.
Manufacturers must sell a minimum of 22% zero-emission cars in the UK this year, increasing to 100% by 2035. Those not meeting targets face penalties of £15,000 per vehicle sold beyond limits.
