A Toyota Prius caught fire near Marsh Creek Road on Sunday, resulting in one person sustaining third-degree burns over 60% of their body, immediately airlifted for treatment.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, as it was not related to any collision or other incident, and investigations by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District are ongoing.
First responders quickly transported the victim to Clayton Community Park from the scene before airlifted by a medical helicopter to UC Davis for specialized burn care.
Cal Fire promptly extinguished the vehicle fire, which burned about 200 feet of grass off Marsh Creek Road, indicating the rapid response of emergency services.
