Yosemite National Park officials announced that visitors won't need reservations to drive into the park for the rest of the year. This decision comes after monitoring visitor use patterns, leading to the conclusion to end the requirement sooner than planned.
The National Park Service reports an average of 3 million to 4 million visitors to Yosemite each year, with significant congestion issues prompting the park to experiment with reservation systems aimed at improving visitor experience.
Last summer, Yosemite also removed reservation requirements, which caused an influx of visitors resulting in severe traffic jams likened to those on Los Angeles freeways, prompting further considerations for managing access.
With nearly 75% of visitors coming between May and October, Yosemite is exploring additional visitor management strategies, planning to announce new access measures for summer 2025 by the end of this year.
