Three suspects have been charged with a total of 72 counts of burglary after a multi-month investigation revealed a pattern of targeting AAPI households in the Bay Area. Authorities recovered around 700 stolen items, valued at approximately $1 million, linking the suspects to nearly 80 burglaries across several cities. Community leaders expressed relief at the arrests, emphasizing the emotional toll of the crimes on the local AAPI community, who experienced heightened fear and anxiety during the burglary spree.
"This is a good day after many months of bad news, of fear, frustration and anger," said San José Mayor Matt Mahan, highlighting the relief felt by the community.
"These crimes have deeply impacted our communities, instilling fear and preying on many vulnerable families," stated Police Chief Paul Joseph, emphasizing the emotional toll of the burglaries.
