'A one-two punch': Biggest snowstorms of the year coming to Lake Tahoe
Briefly

Northern California is expecting potentially record-breaking snowstorms in Lake Tahoe from an atmospheric river phenomenon. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for the Sierra Nevada with heavy snow anticipated through the week. Travelers are advised to schedule their trips cautiously between storms, with a recommendation to cross on Wednesday. The forecast suggests significant snowfall, particularly 1 to 3 feet at elevations above 7,000 feet and 6 to 12 inches at lake level, crucial for the region's snowpack recovery.
"The long and short of it is, we're seeing a one-two punch here," said Matthew Chyba, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's office in Reno.
Chyba advised travelers bound for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada this week to time their drives in between storms.
Heavy snow expected in Tahoe on Monday, Tuesday. Compared to the storm over the weekend - which saw rain at high elevations - this next wave of storms is colder.
Due to the atmospheric river, the snow is expected to be saturated with moisture - the kind of snow that falls in large snowflakes, which stack up relatively quickly.
