Construction of the Brownsville Multi-Service Center is expected to complete by 2026, featuring a 60,000-square-foot facility with various community-focused spaces. This $128 million project will replace an old center and includes a teaching kitchen, conference rooms, and a community garden. Sustainability is emphasized, with solar panels and green roofs incorporated, adhering to the city’s Climate Resiliency Guidelines. Local artist Jazmine Haynes will beautify the center with her works, truly reflecting the community's identity and culture, making it a significant civic space for Brownsville.
"This $128 million facility will directly benefit the people of Brownsville with new sustainable community space built in record time," said Thomas Foley, commissioner of the city's Department of Design and Construction.
"With Jazmine Hayes' extraordinary Percent for Art commission, 'I Am Protected,' the artist has worked with local community members to create multiple installations throughout this amazing new multi-service center."
