Immigration Advocate Condemns Denial of Healthcare to Asylum Seekers
Briefly

The New York Immigration Coalition condemned healthcare discrimination against immigrants at the Floating Hospital in Queens, emphasizing that all New Yorkers, irrespective of immigration status, deserve healthcare access. CEO Murad Awawdeh argued that federal healthcare programs must promote healthy communities, as they have traditionally served underserved asylum seekers. He stressed that denying services to any individual would harm public health and urged all providers in New York to fulfill their mission of care without discrimination. Concerns were also raised over similar practices at the Ben Archer Health Center, which refused service to patients lacking citizenship proof.
Access to healthcare is not only morally correct, it is essential to strengthening our public health... with every half-baked Executive Order from the Trump administration, the rights of individuals... are being impeded upon.
Excluding certain people from this care will hurt every New Yorker, and creates a chilling effect for providers and for recipients alike.
You must treat every person who needs care. Any 'healthcare' institution that turns its backs on its mission to care for all has made the wrong choice.
