15 people hospitalized, at least 5 displaced after Brownsville fire * Brooklyn Paper
"Flames shot from windows on the first and second floors of the building as more than 100 firefighters mounted their offensive. The operation was complicated somewhat by 'clutter' on the first floor, firefighters said."
"Two residents leaped from their windows to escape the blaze, according to sources on the scene. Both were seriously injured and brought to local hospitals by ambulance."
"The DOB issued a full vacate order after an inspector found 'extensive' fire damage, a department spokesperson said. It also ordered the building owner to submit a professional engineer's report on the structural integrity of the building."
A two-alarm fire occurred early Thursday morning at a mixed-use building in Brownsville, resulting in 15 hospitalizations and the displacement of at least five residents. Firefighters responded to the scene at 42 Lott Ave. around 5 a.m., where the fire began on the first floor and spread to the second. Two residents jumped from windows to escape, sustaining serious injuries. The FDNY's fire marshal is investigating the cause, and the building has a history of violations, including missing smoke detectors and structural issues.
