Josef Bresca is recovering in hospital after a fire at his Oshawa home claimed the lives of his wife Vivi and two daughters, 9-year-old Ayelet and 12-year-old Sigalit. His brother, Daniel, had to break the heartbreaking news to him as he struggled with severe burns. Although initially unable to react fully to the news, Josef later exhibited deep emotional grief. The investigation into the fire is ongoing, but authorities do not suspect foul play. Daniel emphasizes Josef's devotion to his family and their collective mourning for the loss.
"I was crying, and I was telling him. I saw tears in his eyes but he couldn't react," Daniel said in an interview with CBC Toronto.
"He's got severe burns on his left arm, on his back, from trying to go upstairs and get his kids and his wife," said Daniel Bresca.
"Everything he did was for the kids," Daniel says the extended family is now focused on Bresca, and on mourning his sister-in-law and nieces.
"The next day, he was more emotional, and he completely understood," said Daniel about his brother's reaction to the tragic news.
