OpenAI's new social video app will let you deepfake your friends
"OpenAI has a new version of its Sora AI video generator, and it's being launched alongside a new social video app, also called Sora, on iOS. The app, currently invite-only, resembles TikTok. But instead of encouraging people to stitch together duets, it asks you to record short videos that anyone can spin into new AI-generated deepfakes - with your consent."
"The person whose likeness is being generated is a "co-owner" of that end result, OpenAI employees said in a briefing with reporters on Monday, and they can delete it, or revoke access to others, at any time. Like TikTok, OpenAI's Sora app allows you to interact with other videos and trends using a "Remix" feature, but it only allows for the generation of 10-second videos for now."
OpenAI released Sora 2, a new video model, together with a companion Sora iOS app that is invite-only and currently available in the US and Canada. The app resembles TikTok and asks users to record short clips that others can turn into AI-generated cameos only with consent. Users can grant friends or everyone permission to create cameos, and people whose likenesses are used are co-owners who can delete or revoke access. The app includes a Remix feature for interacting with trends and currently generates only 10-second videos. Public-figure generation is restricted unless explicit consent is provided, and X-rated or extreme content is blocked.
