Mercedes-Benz is recalling 7,362 EQB electric crossovers in the U.S. over concerns that high-voltage battery packs might fail and catch fire. Despite not receiving warranty claims or service reports related to the defect, the decision to recall is taken out of caution. The affected models, produced between December 2021 and January 2025, could face issues due to production variations combined with external factors, leading to potential internal short circuits. Owners are advised to limit charging to 80% until repairs can be made.
Until the fix is applied, owners are advised to only charge up to 80% state of charge.
Mercedes-Benz cited "variations" during an early stage production period at the supplier, combined with local external factors.
