A 24-year-old woman suspected of causing a crash that killed two people in Long Beach over the weekend is also accused of fatally striking a bicyclist in the city's Alamitos Beach neighborhood in October, authorities said. Ahkeyajahnique Owens, 24, of Long Beach on Wednesday, Jan. 7, pleaded not guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence to an Oct. 6 crash along Fourth Street near Bonito Avenue that left 35-year-old Raul Augustin Gallopa critically injured, according to authorities and court records.

In the 2017 case, Sanchez, 18 at the time, was driving a Buick Century on a rural road near Los Banos, with two younger teens in the backseat. She reportedly swerved onto the shoulder, overcorrected and crashed through a wire fence; the car overturned in a field. Her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline, was killed, and the other girl was badly injured.

Police said Taylor Steven Brindley drove his Jeep through a stop sign on Center Road and struck a Ford F-150. The crash severely injured the driver of the Ford and two passengers. Novato police arrested Brindley, then 24, on suspicion of intoxicated driving, reckless driving causing injuries, blowing a stop sign and driving with a suspended license for a prior DUI case. Palvindra Singh, 51, of Bremerton, Wash., was facing a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter count alleging he caused the April 27, 2023 death of Juan Chan Saltay by speeding, leading to a five-car crash on Interstate 680 in Pleasanton. Singh was charged last year and was out of custody, hoping to complete a diversion program in lieu of criminal prosecution, court records show.
