Driver charged with manslaughter in fatal Albany freeway crash
Briefly

Emmanuel Gonzalez Mendoza, 34, was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence after a collision that killed Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales, 40. The incident occurred on Interstate 80 early Friday morning, involving multiple vehicles including a big rig and Morales's Hyundai Elantra. Morales died at the scene. Gonzalez Mendoza was arrested and is being held without bail. An online fundraiser has been established to support Morales's family during their loss, raising over $15,000 toward a goal of $18,000.
The California Highway Patrol alleged Gonzalez Mendoza was under the influence of alcohol while driving a Toyota Camry that initiated a series of collisions involving a big rig and a Hyundai Elantra driven by Morales.
An online fundraiser for Morales said he was 'a beloved father, husband, son, and friend' who was 'affectionately known as El Patojo,' and 'was a kind and friendly soul, deeply loved by all who knew him.'
