Newcastle United have experienced all manner of emotions at the Parc des Princes. It was here, just a couple of years ago, that Eddie Howe's side were denied a famous win against Paris St-Germain after the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty in stoppage time. That 1-1 draw left a bitter taste, as a result, but there was a very different feeling in the away dressing room on Wednesday night following the same result.
The Hammers would have moved to within a point of the visitors with a much-needed home win and led at the break thanks to an own goal from Forest centre-half Murillo. Nuno Espirito Santo thought he had daylight against his old side when winger Crysencio Summerville drilled in a fine second at the start of the second half. But after a lengthy delay the goal was chalked off because new signing Valentin Castellanos was offside in the build-up.
Levante frustrated the champions in the first period and went into the break with a two-goal lead thanks to Iván Romero's strike and José Luis Morales' penalty at the end of the half. Barça struck twice in three minutes through Pedri and Ferran Torres and they had to wait until the 90th minute for the winner when Lamine Yamal's cross was headed into his own goal by Unai Elgezabal.
