Scientists have unveiled the most detailed map of the brain ever created. The fascinating chart represents almost 10 million neurons, 26 billion synapses and 86 interconnected brain regions. It was created with Fugaku, Japan's ultra-fast supercomputer, which is capable of quadrillions of calculations per second. Scientists will use their digital copy to answer questions about what happens in a disease, how brain waves shape mental focus and how seizures spread in the brain.

The project, coordinated by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), aims to help UK businesses and researchers take their first steps in using AI to improve productivity and unlock new economic potential. It will focus on raising digital literacy, providing technical expertise, and creating a pathway for companies to embed AI safely and efficiently within their operations.

The Jupiter supercomputer at ISC Germany has launched into the number four spot on the Top500 list, making it Europe's most powerful system.
