Ah, tomato ketchup. Love it or hate it, chances are there's a bottle in your fridge right now. Some children insist on having it on the side of every dinner... and we know a few adults who do too. In recent years, a number of brands have introduced low-sugar, flavoured and organic versions of tomato ketchup; here we tasted the standard versions.
Without added sweeteners, the red liquid only has about 6 grams of sugar per 8-ounce cup. In comparison, every cup of cranberry juice has a whopping 31 grams of sugar, while apple contains 24 grams, and orange has 21 grams. Although the tomato refreshment has a minimal amount of sugar, it can be excessive in sodium. For example, an 8-ounce cup can have over 600 milligrams of sodium, while apple juice has just under 10 milligrams.
Perhaps the easiest swap in our book is ordering a smaller size, since we're not changing the recipe at all, simply reducing the amount of sugar that you consume overall. You can also try swapping the milk in your PSL. Starbucks normally uses 2% milk for the latte, but there are plenty of other options - such as nonfat milk, coconut milk, or even almond milk - which can lower your sugar intake by several grams.
Wegmans is truly the hidden gem of the East Coast. After all, you can only shop at Wegmans in a handful of states. Yet, its lack of locations hasn't prevented it from being named one of the best grocery stores in the United States.
