The overriding theme defining television in recent years has been a fear of the new. Which is why reboots and spinoffs continue apace, with old titles brought back from the dead ("Scrubs") or from the not-so-distant past ("The Night Manager") and intellectual property milked within an inch of its life (somehow HBO has yet another "Game of Thrones" series coming our way). It's as if everyone in Hollywood ran out of new ideas all at once.

A loose follow-up to the U.S. version of The Office, The Paper tracks a new industry full of frustrations and petty grievances: journalism. Domhnall Gleeson plays Ned, the brand-new editor-in-chief of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a once-great newspaper that has withered in a changing media environment. Other than Oscar Nunez, who returns as accountant Oscar Martinez, this is a whole new cast, although the shooting style and the mood will remind you very much of the happenings at Dunder Mifflin.

Sal Saperstein, played by Ike Barinholtz, epitomizes Hollywood's worst traits, indulging in lewdness and opportunism, showcasing the dark side of the entertainment industry.
