Maybe this is just like a school district cutting educational resources after undergoing $200 million in renovations that featured several athletic upgrades, but Marquee Sports Network's recent cuts don't look like a good sign. As Jeff Agrest of the Sun-Times was first to report, the Cubs-owned broadcast arm has parted ways with GM Diane Penny, director of content Tony Andracki, and reporter Andy Martinez. Marquee is apparently not seeking to replace them.
There's one story on Boston's TV news stations that won't seem to go away: an exodus of on-air talent that has been depleting the ranks of local broadcasters in recent years. Big names including WBZ-TV's (Channel 4) Jon Keller and WHDH-TV's (Channel 7) Kim Khazei are just the most recent examples of the accelerating flight of journalists from the airwaves.
UChicago is reportedly selling the Center for Research in Security Prices, founded in 1960, for $355 million to Morningstar, a research and investment firm also located in Chicago. The center, known as CRSP, developed a market database more than 65 years ago that "allowed investors to measure historic rates of return for U.S. stocks," according to its website, which notes that its data has been used in more than 18,000 peer-reviewed studies and by hundreds of entities.
"Across the research portfolio we have had to make difficult choices and unfortunately, today, nearly 180 of our colleagues who have been working, in whole or in part, on impacted federal grants, will receive notices of non-renewal or termination."
