Per a video from the Sound of Hockey, Duhaime, while on the Capitals bench, caught Jacob Melanson with his stick as the Kraken forward skated by on the ice with 7:10 remaining in the second period. The play was commented on by the Kraken telecast, "Melanson is clipped by a stick, an accidental stick." The two then later settled the score, dropping the gloves with 1:10 seconds remaining in the third period. Melanson won the fight, earning the takedown.

The Seattle Kraken have traded forward Mason Marchment to the Columbus Blue Jackets, six months after acquiring him from the Dallas Stars. The Jackets are sending two draft picks to the Kraken, a 2026 fourth-rounder originally owned by the New York Rangers and a 2027 second-rounder, an NHL source told ESPN. "Mason is a player I know very well, and I think he will add a great deal to our team," said Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell. "He is a physical, hard-nosed competitor with proven offensive ability and we are very excited to have him join the Blue Jackets."

A year after that, the NHL approved Seattle as an expansion into the league, with them starting their inaugural season in 2021.

They don't need a lot of opportunities to put the puck in the net. They're dangerous. Watching them play the Rangers, they played fast. They're just a good hockey team that is solid top to bottom. An ASU alumni currently in the NHL will have his number retired this season when Joey Daccord's number 35 is retired in their season opener on October 3rd. The Sun Devils home opener was already highly anticipated since Gavin McKenna will be visiting with Penn State to take on ASU. In addition to being the first ASU player to have his number retired, Daccord was the first ASU player to be drafted, sign with, and play with an NHL team.
