"I feel like we were defending the whole game, so you're not going to get any offense if you don't have the puck. They were skating. I think it came down to skating and competing first, and we got our legs and made a little bit of a push, but they were the more consistent team throughout the whole game. Just felt like we never had our legs or our hands, kind of the whole night."
"Obviously not good enough and tough pill to swallow right now."
The Washington Capitals haven't won back-to-back games since early December and have lost four of five on a West Coast road trip. The Capitals lost 5-1 to the Seattle Kraken, and two Kraken goals were overturned by officials. The Capitals managed four shots on goal in the first period and allowed 13, but Logan Thompson kept the game scoreless at intermission. Seattle scored three times in the second period, including two from Jared McCann, and added goals in the third while two Kraken goals were negated for a high-stick and goaltender interference. The Capitals finished with 20 shots and a single goal from Alex Ovechkin. At five-on-five, the Capitals were out-attempted 53-36 and trailed in expected goals 3.11 to 1.79. The loss put the Capitals eight points out of the final wild-card spot in the East.
