The Seattle Kraken missed the postseason last season but made offseason moves aimed at improvement. Lane Lambert was hired as the full-time head coach, replacing Dan Bylsma, and Mason Marchment was acquired in a trade from the Dallas Stars. Jared McCann has attracted trade interest from other teams, but the Kraken currently have no plans to trade him. McCann has led the franchise in scoring in each of its four seasons and has two years left on a $5 million-per-year contract. The Kraken would require an overwhelming offer to move McCann, though trade discussions could increase if the team struggles early in the season.
"The 29-year-old has led the franchise in scoring all four seasons of its existence and has two more seasons left on his contract at a very reasonable $5-million per," Simpson wrote via Seattle Hockey Insider. "Those are two very good reasons why the Kraken were telling teams, at least up until now, that they're not parting with their lefty winger who can also play the middle."
"It would take a king's ransom to pry McCann loose at this point, and it would still take a pretty hefty offer come late November or December should the Kraken falter in the early season," Simpson wrote. "If they do, and the playoff chances look slim after US Thanksgiving, then the trade talk will triple." This past season, McCann scored 22 goals and added 39 assists while appearing in all 82 games.
