We do know the Rangers considered themselves buyers as recently as the Winter Classic, with interest in Kiefer Sherwood. The asking price was a 1st round pick and more, which Vancouver is unlikely to get. We do know the Rangers offer for Kiefer Sherwood did not include a 1st round pick, but it included at least one "young player with pedigree" and a 2nd round pick, per Chris Johnston.
Lately, the Sharks have been one of the main teams that the Leafs like to deal with and make trades with. Most recently, Toronto sent out Ryan Reaves to San Jose in return for young defenseman Henry Thrun, who could make the team as a seventh blueliner. And a little further back, in a somewhat similar type of deal to what we could expect a Robertson trade to look like, the Leafs send former first-round pick Timothy Liljegren to the Sharks, as well.
As the Pittsburgh Penguins approach a fork in the road between rebuilding or making one last run at the Stanley Cup with its current core, captain Sidney Crosby's future is being called into question. Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, further ignited the debate with his borderline cryptic comments, saying "each year the team that he's playing for fails to make the playoffs, it creates a lot of speculation" and "he's not getting any younger." Meanwhile, Crosby hismelf has been generally tight-lipped, but he retains the position that while he understands how and why the rumors are created, he still sees himself in a Penguins jersey until the day he retires.
