First Taste: Rich Table's laidback spinoff RT Bistro is SF's first best new restaurant of 2026.

RT Bistro doesn't need it. On a gray and drizzly Tuesday evening, stepping into their mountain cabin-inspired digs, all warm and filled with the kitchen's intoxicating scent, feels like coming home. The restaurant is a sliver of a thing, just 37 seats, but even with every party at their own blond wood, marble-topped table, there's a buoyant dinner party vibe.

They only made about a dozen per night because they didn't want the burger to be what defined the menu. If you scored one, you felt like you were part of a secret club. Indeed, the famed restaurant that held on to its star for eight consecutive years (from 2014 to 2021) was meant for bigger things than a meat sandwich.
