Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 6-4 on aggregate in a controversial Champions League quarterfinal match.
After the final whistle, the young defender took responsibility in a way that reflects his maturity. He shared images from the match on social media, accompanied by an apology to teammates and supporters.
Already on a yellow card, Ramsey latched onto Anthony Gordon's through ball and outpaced goalkeeper Senne Lammens to the ball before tripping over his own feet. Significantly, Ramsey didn't appeal for a penalty. Bankes awarded a goal kick and attempted to continue the game until he was crowded by United players, who demanded a second yellow card for simulation.
Massimiliano Allegri was given a red card last night, but it should've potentially been the other way around and AC Milan can, and will, feel hard done by. In split seconds, brief moments can change games and Milan may have witnessed that last night, as Allegri was given a red card on the sidelines for his reaction to an incident in the 78th minute. Whilst it may not have been clear at the time, footage shows it clearly.
Who is Soto Grado? As pointed out by Diario SPORT, Grado's appointment has raised immediate concern within the Blaugrana dressing room. The official arrives amidst intense controversy following Pau Cubarsí's disallowed goal against Atletico Madrid, which prompted formal complaints from the club. Soto Grado has a turbulent history with Barça, yielding a record of seven wins, three draws, and six defeats across 16 matches.
Hoffenheim coach Christian Ilzer was pretty clear abut how he felt regarding the penalty and red card given to Kevin Akpoguma in the 17th minute of his team's 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich. "A clear wrong decision. There's no need to discuss it, everyone saw it. There was absolutely no foul. 75,000 people in the stadium were looking forward to a top match here. I feel a bit sorry for them that it turned into this game with one player less," Ilzer said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Sadio Mane has done many great things for Senegal and for Senegalese football, but what he did on Sunday evening, in what he confirmed would be his last Cup of Nations game, was perhaps greater than his winning goal in Wednesday's Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, greater than his penalty to win the World Cup qualifying play-off against Egypt in 2022, greater even than his decisive penalty in the 2021 final.
Morocco had the chance to win the game, staged on home territory in Rabat, in stoppage time when Senegal defender El Hadji Malick Diouf was adjudged to have pulled Brahim Diaz in the area when jostling at a corner. The incident came just minutes after Senegal had what appeared a legitimate goal ruled out by referee Jean Jacques Ndala for an apparent shove on Achraf Hakimi by Abdoulaye Seck.
The experienced Davide Massa has been chosen by the AIA for AC Milan's game against Fiorentina, but the Rossoneri have a very mixed record with the referee. It's been a season filled with refereeing controversy, perhaps it's under the microscope now more than ever, and Milan have been on the receiving end of some strange calls. Just a few days ago, in the 1-1 draw against Genoa, a seemingly non-existent penalty was given against the Rossoneri.
It was a game where they took the lead, but we had our chances before them. They scored in an avoidable situation, but despite that, we did well to look for the equaliser. I don't like to talk about this, but there were two incidents, which we also reviewed, that looked like clear penalties. Honestly, we're not interested in these discussions, though. The positive thing is that, despite the pitch being unplayable today, our players always tried to play the ball, even if the flow of play wasn't what it used to be.
Arsenal struggled to break Aston Villa during the first half of their clash at the Emirates on Tuesday, but they rose to the challenge after the break and eventually won the game by 4-1. However, there was one moment of strong controversy in the game. A few minutes before the hour mark, with the scoreline standing at 2-0, Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino committed a clearly bookable offence on Villa's Morgan Rogers, and he was already on a yellow card.
We get the first red, which I have seen being given before. I've also said before, definitely a few times at Brentford, I've also seen others and I don't like this as a red card. I think the game is probably too big to say 'gone' but for me it is not reckless, he has not come with exceptional force. He is chasing Van Dijk. He is trying to put pressure and then he changes direction and then unfortunately his foot is on his Achilles.
