Yesterday was the deadline to add prospects to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft, a bizarre mechanism whereby teams can swipe veteran minor leaguers from each other, under the condition that the selecting team needs to then keep that player on the big league roster for the remainder of the following season. The Red Sox added three minor leaguers to the roster:

Red Sox Connelly Early is set to make his first career start. The Red Sox are set to give another rookie pitcher his MLB debut. Connelly Early, a left-handed starter who was a fifth-round pick by Boston in 2023, is reportedly being called up to make his first career start on Tuesday night against the Athletics. Meanwhile, Red Sox starter Dustin May is set to head to the Injured List per Foul Territory.
