The Metascience Alliance is a coalition of more than 25 funders, academic groups, companies and other institutions that pursue metascience: the use of scientific methods to understand and improve science itself.

The distributed peer review system requires researchers who apply for funding to review other applications, avoiding the lengthy process of finding external peer reviewers.

Novelty remains a subjective quality in scientific research, challenging the conventional metrics that reward certain types of originality and making meaningful measurement difficult.
