A surgeon's misconduct in bowel mesh procedures has led to over £20 million in NHS compensation for more than 450 injured patients.
A GP has admitted to poor professional performance over his physical examination of an army officer during which he inappropriately exposed one of her breasts without the patient's consent. The doctor - who was identified only as Doctor C - made admissions at a fitness-to-practise hearing of the Medical Council in relation to four allegations concerning his treatment of the female soldier while working as a locum at the Curragh Camp, Co Kildare on September 19, 2022.
The trial, held in a court in the religious capital of the country, concluded on Monday night with a 20-year prison sentence for the doctor, after the victims presented a detailed account of the horrors they endured. It began as a story of jealousy. The psychiatrist S.I. had declined to accompany his wife on a trip to France that they had arranged the previous year.
The tribunal heard that on November 14 2023, Dr Mia, who qualified in South Africa in 1999, was in consultation with a patient at the central London clinic when four CQC inspectors arrived and introduced themselves. A short while later, Dr Mia was observed heading to the lifts with a suitcase. The tribunal heard an inspector "intercepted" Dr Mia, telling him the reason for the visit was "to establish if regulated activities were taking place at the clinic", after receiving complaints from members of the public.
Mark Chavez, a former doctor, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine last October. In his plea agreement, Chavez acknowledged that he and Salvador Plasencia - an ex-doctor sentenced to nearly three years in prison earlier this month - colluded to deceive medical ketamine suppliers and illegally distribute the drug to Perry for profit. Chavez, 54, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following his house arrest and must perform 300 hours of community service.
