Former Brigham and Women's doctor facing new rape charges
"The allegations are that the defendant in this case exploited his patients' vulnerability and abused his position of trust as a medical professional. No person should have to fear for their safety when seeking medical treatment."
"Todd is accused of conducting medically unnecessary and 'excessively prolonged' pelvic and breast examinations, which were performed under the guise of legitimate medical treatment. Todd lacked appropriate training or certification for the examinations, which were allegedly 'outside the accepted standards.'"
Derrick Todd, a former Brigham and Women's Hospital physician, faces serious criminal charges including three counts of rape and 17 counts of indecent assault and battery related to 11 female patients aged 20 to 60. The alleged assaults occurred between 2021 and 2023 while Todd worked as a rheumatologist and primary care physician at Charles River Medical Associates in Framingham. Todd is accused of conducting medically unnecessary and excessively prolonged pelvic and breast examinations under the guise of legitimate medical treatment. He lacked appropriate training or certification for these examinations. Todd ceased practicing medicine in 2023 following a hospital investigation. Over 200 patients have joined a class action lawsuit against him, with additional lawsuits filed by former patients.
