Prestige in law firms is increasingly defined by justice and associate satisfaction, not just compensation.
Biglaw firms are ranked in a multitude of ways, from gross revenue to size to quality of life and even prestige. But what about what may actually matter most, the number of people who are searching for these Biglaw firms on Google? Those searching could be associates and partners interested in salary information or looking to lateral, existing or potential clients, and even members of the media interested in tracking down a hot law firm story.
We are pleased to release our eighth annual ranking of the Top Outside Counsel, featuring the law firms that clients depend on most. Every year since 2018, Above the Law has published a list of the top law firms in the country, based on the insights of those who know best - the in-house attorneys who hire them. This year, approximately 550 in-house lawyers participated in our survey, sharing their perspectives on the law firms their organizations work with.
The top law firm for midlevel associate satisfaction is O'Melveny & Myers, according to an American Lawyer survey published by Law.com. More than 3,000 associates in their third, fourth and fifth years responded to the survey asking them to grade their firms in 12 categories on a scale of 1 to 5, Law.com reports. The categories included compensation and benefits, training and guidance, relationships with partners and other associates, satisfaction with the work, billable-hours policy, and management transparency about firm strategies and partnership chances.
