Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez withdrew from the Argentina squad during the latest international break with an apparent knee injury. The combative midfielder has played in every Premier League game so far for the Blues, and was an integral part of the group that won the Club World Cup in the summer. Fernandez, who signed for Chelsea from Benfica for 106.8m in 2023, has enjoyed a fruitful start to the 25/26 season - scoring three times and registering two assists so far.
Jones is playing with a heavy knee brace and is dealing with an oblique injury that happened late in a 26-21 win over the Los Angeles Rams a week earlier. It turns out Jones wound up not throwing at all. He wasn't able (to throw) today so he just focused on handoffs and stuff like that, coach Kyle Shanahan said on KNBR-680. Really tried to rest it up. Should be able to go on Sunday, but definitely wasn't good enough to go today. Hopefully that'll continue to improve. He was listed as a limited participant.
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts are scoring at a historic pace, but they might be forced to make some adjustments after a key injury in their 40-6 victory over the Raiders on Sunday. Kicker Spencer Shrader, who entered Week 5 leading the NFL with 13 made field goals, sustained a potentially serious knee injury when Raiders safety Tristin McCollum collided with him during an extra point attempt in the second quarter. McCollum was flagged for a personal foul for roughing the kicker.
In his first season with the Patriots, Chaisson has become a bit of an unexpected key contributor. He's started all four games to this point, playing opposite of Harold Landry as the Patriots' two primary edge rushers. Chaisson has also played 68.3 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps, which is the seventh-highest among all the team's defenders, per Pro Football Reference.
"Just to be able to come back from an injury like I did, that in itself has proven to me how mentally strong I am," Barzal told Ethan Sears of the New York Post before the Islanders' preseason matchup with the Rangers at UBS Arena. "When it happened, when the injury happened, the boys were so gracious with me, just so there for me at all times. It's also a reason why I was able to rehab so well, 'cause I felt so much support for the boys."
Aleksander Barkov had knee surgery on Friday and will be lost to the Florida Panthers indefinitely. Barkov is set to miss the entirety of the 2025-26 regular season and the 2026 Olympics in Italy. Let's cross our fingers that Florida's captain will somehow be able to be back for the playoffs, but with the time frame for his return set at 7-9 months, it's not looking good.
Cleveland Browns starting offensive tackle Dawand Jones suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday's win over the Green Bay Packers that will require surgery, coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday. Jones suffered the injury on the fourth play from scrimmage after a defender dove into his legs. Stefanski said the team would turn in the play to the NFL for review. League rules prohibit defenders from initiating a block below the waist against an offensive player who is outside the tight end box.
"When I was just getting off the ball, I wasn't expecting for him to cut-block me like that," said Robinson, who spent a few minutes down on the ground as he held his left knee. "Once I felt his helmet hit my knee, I kind of thought another thing, but once the trainers came out on the field and I realized I was good, it took everything off my back. I was just honestly ready to get back in the game."
Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright was back at the team's Thursday practice, going through drills for the first time in the three weeks since his knee injury. The development possibly puts Wright in play ahead of their home opener against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Wright was seen, during a brief media viewing portion of practice, participating in team stretch and then going through cutting drills with a football in his arm.
Wisconsin quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. is unlikely to play at No. 19. Alabama on Saturday, sources told ESPN. Edwards is expected to travel with the team and plans to warm up for the game, per sources, but he still faces long odds to play this week. Edwards sprained his knee in the opening game against Miami University and is considered week-to-week.
By giving Lucas a new deal, the Seahawks are making a bet on the health of his surgically repaired knee and a rare reinvestment in one of the key pieces of their offensive line. Lucas, 26, flashed dominance as a rookie in 2022 after the Seahawks drafted him in the third round. But he's been limited to 13 games over the past two seasons
Alcaraz suffered an injury scare during a second-set wobble but, following a medical timeout, was able to emerge a 6-2 6-4 6-0 victor over Darderi. The Spaniard started impressively with a break of serve in the second game of the opening set, and quickly claimed the early advantage in just 29 minutes. After leading 4-1 in the second, Alcaraz was broken by Darderi for the first time and was pulled into a tight battle, during which he appeared to land awkwardly after a serve.
