Jofre Torrents has been a regular member in training with Barcelona's first team this season, with Hansi Flick seeing special potential in the youngster. A left-back by trade, he has made his first-team debut and a handful of appearances under the German manager and is rated as one of the academy's best young left-backs. Alejandro Balde's improved fitness and Gerard Martin's rise have seen his prominence in the first team limited this season, with Joao Cancelo's arrival adding even more competition.
Embiid felt soreness in the knee after scoring 33 points in 33 minutes during Saturday's win over the Phoenix Suns, sources told ESPN. He then sat out Monday's loss to the Trail Blazers in Portland. Sources said that while the soreness has decreased, he sat out again the Knicks and will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break.
I believe there were several short circuits regarding Mateta. I tend to believe and I think, and I'm also quite convinced, that Milan, like other clubs that negotiated with Mateta, were unaware of the problem. Also because I can tell you that up until a few hours before the end of the transfer window, this problem was initially denied by people close to Mateta's entourage and then downplayed. Evidently, then, there was something that went wrong in Mateta's management. I think on everyone's part.
Detroit Pistons forward Jalen Duren is pulling out of the 2026 Slam Dunk contest due to a knee injury he suffered last week, according to multiple reports. Duren, a first-time All-Star, exited Thursday's game against the Wizards early due to right knee soreness and then sat out Friday's win over the Knicks. Duren is being replaced by Orlando Magic rookie Jase Richardson, the son of two-time Slam Dunk champion Jason Richardson.
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper John Victor has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The 29-year-old sustained the injury against Aston Villa earlier this month and sources have told BBC Sport he will not return this term. With only Angus Gunn as back-up to Matz Sels, Forest are now in talks to sign Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa before Monday's transfer deadline.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned defenceman Dakota Mermis to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL) on a long-term injured reserve (LTIR) conditioning loan, the team announced on Monday. Mermis, 32, has been out of game action since December 8 after suffering a lower-body injury in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The defenceman went knee-on-knee with Lightning forward Gage Goncalves and left the game following the injury.
Austria's 2022 Olympic slalom silver medallist Katharina Liensberger will miss the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics after suffering a serious knee injury in a training crash. The Austrian Ski Association said Liensberger would have surgery on Friday after medical examinations revealed a fracture of the tibial plateau, a torn meniscus and a medial collateral ligament injury in her right knee. Austrian media said the 28-year-old slalom specialist's season was over after the crash in St Michael a month before the Olympics start in Italy.
Midway through the third period, Islanders' star Bo Horvat collided with the Mammoth's Sean Durzi. Horvat was slow to get up. And even though he was able to skate off the ice on his own, it was evident the Islanders' leading scorer was in considerable discomfort and could not put weight on his left leg. The knee-jerk reaction was that Thursday's injury is related to the groin issue that sidelined him earlier this season.
Raptors Nation missed RJ Barrett a lot after he sustained a knee sprain that turned out to be more serious than initially thought. Now he's back (and the vibes are too), but Barrett was sidelined for 15 games, which translated to about five weeks of missed NBA action. During that period, his absence was noticeable in many aspects of the Raptors' game.
When I heard the diagnosis, all the energy went out of my body. After the op, I woke up, looked at my leg and couldn't believe what happened. Then the questions came: will I be the same again? Will I play again? When I showered for the first time after the op, all the emotions came out. I burst into tears. I was in pain, couldn't bend my leg, couldn't walk for six or seven weeks. I hardly slept at night.
