Sandlin, 29, has pitched in parts of four big league seasons, primarily suiting up for the Guardians. Cleveland shipped him to Toronto as part of last offseason's Andrés Giménez swap, however. Sandlin wound up pitching only 16 1/3 innings with the Jays, as a lat strain and elbow inflammation led him to spend the bulk of the season on the injured list. Toronto designated him for assignment following the season - effectively non-tendering him - rather than paying a projected $2MM in arbitration ( courtesy of MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz).
The Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with free agent outfielder Dylan Carlson, as first reported by Greg Zumach. The ALIGND Sports client receives a non-roster invitation to major league spring training, where he'll compete for a bench job. Carlson is the second veteran outfielder to sign a minor league deal with the Cubs in the past week. Former Astros outfielder Chas McCormick also received an NRI from Chicago and will be in the mix for a bench spot.
Taillon, who was born in Lakeland, Florida and went to school in Texas, holds Canadian citizenship thanks to his parents, who were both born in the Great White North. He also has numerous family ties from coast to coast and he repped Canada at the 2013 World Baseball Classic, the youngest player on the team at 21. Taillon has not represented the nation at the following tournaments since.
Cabrera would have been a welcome addition to either starter rotation after posting a 3.53 ERA with a 1.220 WHIP and 150 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched the latter two setting new career bests. While his stuff is undeniable, creating a high ceiling, the 27-year-old has often been sabotaged by injuries, particularly elbow and shoulder issues. Still, an expansive arsenal that features a fastball with a 97-mph average speed has created solid metrics for his new franchise, the Cubs, to work with.
The numbers are staggering. Since being drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft in 2020, Cavalli has unfortunately not been able to stay healthy, spending limited time on the big-league mound. Between Tommy John surgery and the "dead arm" setbacks that pushed back his return in 2025, he has become the equivalent of a McLaren that never leaves the garage.
Mahle is coming off an injury-riddled 2025 with the Rangers, though he was productive when healthy. The veteran righty was one of the most pleasant early-season surprises, pitching to a 1.64 ERA over the first two months of the season. Mahle allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his first 12 starts to begin the campaign. He was knocked around for eight earned runs across his first two starts of June,
At the time, Sale's most recent innings total of 102 2/3 innings was his highest in three seasons, as he had barely pitched in 2021-2022, and missed 2020 entirely. His ailments included rib and pinkie injuries, along with Tommy John Surgery. The Braves made a gamble that Sale would be his dominant pitching self without the issues that would keep him off the field, and boy, did it pay off.
Right-handed pitcher Chris Martin, who will turn 40 in the middle of the 2026 season, is re-signing with the Texas Rangers on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The club has yet to confirm the deal, which is pending a physical. Martin, who spent 26 games with the Dodgers after they acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in 2022, spent last season with the Rangers, holding a 2.98 across 42.1 innings as a reliever.
While he originally signed with the Red Sox as a teenager back in 2016, Santos was flipped to the Giants organization a year later as part of the team's return for infielder Eduardo Nuñez. Santos spent four-plus seasons in the Giants' system before making brief appearances in the majors in both 2021 and 2022. He wound up pitching only 5 2/3 innings as a Giant before being traded again - this time to the White Sox in exchange for minor league righty Kade McClure.
Hughes has been injured a lot but it seems to be the same injuries, mainly upper-body and shoulder injuries. As a hockey player, being unable to use his stick is a major issue. With these injuries, Hughes has yet to play a full 82 games going into this seventh NHL season. Most of his injuries have been NHL related, but he has had some odd injuries, including his latest one that saw him slice his hand at a team function. Hughes has played 385 out of a possible 574 games. While he has missed a lot of time he has been productive when he has played, accumulating 151 goals and 220 assists for 371 points.
The 31-year-old Lowe has been a consistently above-average hitter throughout his big league tenure, dating all the way back to his MLB debut in 2018. That includes 2025, when Lowe belted 31 home runs in just 134 games. The lefty-swinging slugger turned in an overall .256/.307/.477 batting line. While his 6.9% walk rate was the lowest of his career, Lowe's 91.1 mph average exit velocity and 46.4% hard-hit rate were some of the best he's posted in his eight major league seasons.
The lefty made 32 starts in 2024. He had a 14-start stretch in the middle where he posted a 6.18 ERA, 19.8 K%, and 11.4 BB%. That 8.3 K-BB% was the fourth-worst in baseball among qualified starters during that June 3rd-August 17th period. Before and after that, Gore pitched like an ace. His velocity was up early in the season, spiking to 96.6 miles per hour from the beginning of the year through July 1st. It was a full mile per hour slower from that point on.
Houston took Bukauskas with the 15th overall pick in 2017. Injuries limited him to 17 appearances over his first two professional seasons. Bukauskas reached Double-A for his final start of 2018. He remained at the level in 2019, posting a 5.25 ERA across 20 appearances (14 starts). The Astros shipped Bukauskas, Corbin Martin, , and to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline for Zack Greinke.
May split the year between the Dodgers and the Red Sox, with a 4.96 ERA in 132 1/3 innings across 25 appearances (23 starts) along with a 21.1% strikeout rate and a 9.6% walk rate. He made 19 appearances (18 starts) with the Dodgers through July 31, recording a 4.85 ERA in 104 innings, although he did post a slightly above average groundball rate at 43.8%.
By now, it should be evident to most hockey fans that Matt Rempe serves a singular purpose for the New York Rangers: to inflict punishment. In just two seasons, he has managed to be suspended for more games than he's registered points, a statistic that speaks volumes about how he is deployed. Little wonder, then, that the Islanders devoted considerable effort to insulating Matthew Schaefer from Rempe
Victor Boniface will become a Milan player from Bayer Leverkusen unless he doesn't pass his medical. The Rossoneri have been looking for a new striker all summer and after being linked with Dušan Vlahović of Juventus and Rasmus Højlund of Manchester United, an opportunity arrived and was taken to sign Victor Boniface. As reported by Milannews.it, Matteo Moretto and others, the 24-year-old is set to join the Diavolo on loan for €5m with an option to buy for €25m.
Sometimes, depending on how serious it is, I can kind of tough it out and play through it, Nimmo said. But this one was affecting the swing and me running. I wasn't able to do what I wanted on defense, either. I wasn't able to look up So we decided to go ahead and get out of there. Nimmo, who added that it just takes a few days to get out,
