Former Dodgers Journeyman Signs with Rangers
"Right-handed pitcher Chris Martin, who will turn 40 in the middle of the 2026 season, is re-signing with the Texas Rangers on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The club has yet to confirm the deal, which is pending a physical. Martin, who spent 26 games with the Dodgers after they acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in 2022, spent last season with the Rangers, holding a 2.98 across 42.1 innings as a reliever."
"Martin struggled to stay healthy in the second half of the season, landing on the IL multiple times due to shoulder fatigue, calf strains and thoracic outlet syndrome, which ultimately ended his season. He appeared in just 9.2 innings after the All-Star break."
"Despite his age, Martin has been a consistent threat on the mound, holding a 2.60 ERA from 2022-25 according to MLB.com. His arsenal of pitches is wide, featuring a four-seam fastball, cutter, splitter, sinker and sweeper."
"Martin's baseball journey is a long one. He was a standout pitcher at Arlington High School and wasa originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2005. However, a torn labrum in his shoulder kept him out of baseball, and Martin began working in a warehouse."
Chris Martin is re-signing with the Texas Rangers on a one-year contract that remains pending a physical. He will turn 40 during the 2026 season. Martin posted a 2.98 ERA across 42.1 innings for the Rangers last season and carries a 2.60 ERA from 2022–25. He missed time late in the previous season due to shoulder fatigue, calf strains and thoracic outlet syndrome, appearing in only 9.2 innings after the All-Star break. Martin throws a wide mix—four-seam fastball, cutter, splitter, sinker and sweeper—and his career includes a 2005 draft selection, a torn labrum, independent-league work, a Red Sox minor-league signing, an MLB debut in 2014, and two seasons in Japan's NPB.
