Visitors can skip the entrance fees at California parks on Monday, part of a state effort to reduce barriers to accessing the outdoors. More than 200 California state parks are offering the free vehicle entry - including motorcycles - on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday to California residents and visitors.

Committed to making art, craft, and design accessible to everyone, the Museum of Craft and Design is free on the first Thursday of every month.

America's national parks are treasures worth exploring, and the best part? You don't always have to open your wallet. With 63 official national parks and more than 400 additional sites managed by the National Park Service, there's no shortage of stunning landscapes to discover. Some parks charge entry fees-typically $20-$35 per person or per vehicle-but there are plenty of ways to enjoy the beauty for free.

Enjoy free admission from 10 am to 4 pm, every first Friday of the month, at the San Mateo History Museum. Explore the museum housed in the 1910 County Courthouse;listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it features a stained glass dome and mosaic tile floor. The History Museum is an innovative regional history center featuring interactive experiences highlighting the county's rich and colorful history.

Connect with nature at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, a place for learning, explorationand building community located in a beautiful building right on the beach in Santa Cruz. Permanent exhibits include wildlife and habitat displays, artifacts and cultural exhibits of the Ohlone, a garden learning center, plus exhibits on the geology of Santa Cruz, and Monterey Bay marine life. Explore the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History for free on every first Friday of the month from 10 am to 5 pm.
