The Sunnyvale School District's Family Engagement Program was recognized by the California School Boards Association (CSBA) for strengthening partnerships with underrepresented families, including those who are Hispanic, Black, English learners and students with disabilities. The district received the CSBA's 2025 Golden Bell Award for practices that have increased parent participation by over 30 percent. The district's Parent Engagement Program provides culturally responsive workshops and resources, focusing on topics like navigating individualized education programs and accessing mental health services.

Research shows that volunteering can reduce mortality and increase overall functioning. Engaging in long-term volunteer commitments has been linked to improved mental, physical, and cognitive health in older adults.

New research indicates a significant decline in parents reading aloud to their children, with only 41% of kids aged 0-4 read to regularly, compared to 64% in 2012.
