China moved on Thursday to curb a fierce price war among automakers that has caused massive losses for the industry, after passenger car sales dropped nearly 20% in January from the year before, the fastest pace in almost two years. The State Administration for Market Regulation released guidelines for manufacturers, dealers and parts suppliers aimed at preventing a race-to-the-bottom price war.

Even as auto industry executives, analysts and policy experts warn of an electric-vehicle slowdown in the United States, one crucial part of the EV transition didn't slow down at all in 2025: the nation's fast-charging network. America's EV public fast-charging network grew at a staggering pace last year, the charging analytics firm Paren reported Wednesday. The record-breaking year saw more than 18,000 new fast-charging ports installed nationwide.

The discourse around EV charging usually centers on public fast chargers and Level 2 plugs installed in private homes. But not everyone needs to fast charge at a Tesla Supercharger or Electrify America station every day, unless they're road-tripping. And not everyone owns a home with a garage to install a Level 2 charger in the first place. Renters make up a large share of American households, yet they often lack adequate charging options.
