The 5,500 registrations marked Tesla's strongest showing in Q3 2025 so far, as per data shared by industry watcher Piloly on social media platform X. With about a week left in Q3 2025, Tesla's European sales are up 6.3% quarter-over-quarter. Year-to-date, however, Tesla's European deliveries are still 20% lower compared to 2024's figures. The data covers roughly 60% of Europe's EV market, including major countries such as the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, and Italy.
Tesla has long been the king of EVs, but its position is slowly eroding as customers are turning to the vastly more diversified portfolios of rival companies. That evolution is clear as day in Europe, where Tesla's reliance on just two aging cars-the Model 3 and Model Y-has caused sales numbers to go down month after month, leaving room for so-called traditional automakers to sweep in.
It's not unexpected for an automaker to reveal a new concept vehicle at a high-concept industry event. Given that IAA Mobility 2025 is currently taking place in Munich, car enthusiasts might expect to see some interesting proofs of concept there - and, sure enough, Hyundai chose that occasion to show off the Concept THREE, a compact EV designed to demonstrate potential features in upcoming Ioniq vehicles.
Per the ACEA report, European car registrations of Tesla vehicles totaled 8,837 in July, down 40% year-on-year. BYD reported 13,503 registrations, up 225%. In terms of total market share, BYD now controls 1.2% of the market compared to Tesla's 0.8%. From a macro perspective, July is a reflection of a broader pattern that's emerged in 2025: Since January, European Tesla registrations have slumped by over 33% compared to the same period in 2024, while BYD's registrations have risen by over 290%.
