Thanks to the way Google's for years now been deconstructing Android and pulling OS-level pieces out of the operating system itself - so they exist as regular ol' apps and can consequently be updated quickly, frequently, and in a way that reaches everyone instantly, regardless of what phone or carrier they're using - even Android phones from eight years ago get updates numerous times a year that are all virtually equivalent to an entire iOS operating system rollout.

Google wanted to remove Assistant from most Android phones by the end of 2025 and replace it with Gemini. But now the company has announced that it needs a bit more time to make its AI assistant the new default digital helper for most of its users. Google said that it's adjusting its previously announced timeline to "make sure [it delivers] a seamless transition" and that updates to convert Assistant to Gemini on Android devices will continue into the next year.

You can sign up for emergency satellite texting if you have a phone compatible with T-Satellite, though there are some pretty notable exceptions. It doesn't support phones with emergency satellite texting built in, including the iPhone 14 and later, as well as the Pixel 9 and up (excluding the 9A). That means you can only use T-Mobile's 911 texting if you have an iPhone 13, Pixel 9A, a Samsung Galaxy S21 and up, or a newer Motorola phone.

The final general release for iPadOS 26 and iOS 26 is slated for September 15. Apple released the developer beta of iPadOS 26 for registered developers during WWDC in June.
