The franchise tag remains a likely option in the short term, but it's far from ideal. Tagging a wide receiver carries a massive one-year cap hit and offers no long-term security for either side. A multi-year deal, properly structured, would be far more beneficial. Pickens gives Dallas something defenses must account for on every snap: a physical, vertical threat who can win one-on-one matchups and stretch coverage. His presence tilts safety alignments and creates space underneath, making life easier for the entire offense.
General manager Chris Getz downplayed the possibility of making any multi-year free agent pickups. "Free agency is an avenue to bring in players to help in the win total, but to go beyond this upcoming season I think would be a little premature considering the state of our club right now," the GM told Scott Merkin of MLB.com. The Sox gave out one multi-year free agent contract over Getz's first two offseasons - the two-year, $15MM deal to bring Erick Fedde back from Korea in 2023.
It's a great moment for David Raya, a great moment for Arsenal in general. He signed a new deal at the club, technically it's just improved but he's not gonna change the length of his contract still valid until June 2028. But I think this is part of what I'm hearing of a clear Arsenal strategy to have everyone very happy in the dressing room.
