Bayern Munich's sporting director expresses concern over the team's defensive weaknesses despite securing a late draw against Heidenheim.
Even if it is true, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund will not get caught saying too much about the coveted 19-year-old. "I don't want to talk too much about other players, but he's doing really well, he's got great pace. He's developing really well. I also think he can contribute something to the German national team. Julian will have thought this call-up through carefully," Freund told Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Wolfsburg are interested in Christoph Freund for their vacant sporting director role, but the Austrian has no intention of leaving Bayern. Freund would certainly have a larger role with Wolfsburg and far more power than he does in Bavaria, but it would be a steep drop in prestige and capability. Freund has built a reputation as an executive who can help drive improvement and excellence in a club's youth development system.
