The developer and 3D artist Lucas Roedel has created a free Blender addon that turns 3D models into pixel art-like renders. It might seems like a regression to start in 3D in order to recreate the art style of retro games from the '80s, but the plug in appears to be very effective, making this an option to jump on the pixel art resurgence.
OK Go teamed up with animators Lucas Zanotto ( previously) and Will Anderson, along with Blender Studio, to create a digital music video unlike any they've made so far. The song "Impulse Purchase" takes Zanotto's characteristic cartoonish characters, which roll and explode in a variety of playful, geometric shapes and combines the imagery with real-time motion captures of lead singer Damien Kulash's face.
"I'm very drawn to Blender's open-source ethos: the sharing of tools, knowledge, and creative work so anyone can use, modify, and contribute. We quickly realised the most exciting thing about this project was that it wasn't just going to be a music video - it's something people can actually download, play with, and make their own," says Will. "You can link it to your face and sing along, change the character, explore how the nodes fit together, remix it, adapt it, and share it yourself...
It procedurally generates foliage in minutes with enough detail to strand up to close examination. Forest Generator is a tool created by VFX artist Andreas Dürr AKA Cinematic Cookie. It allows the rapid creation of realistic procedural forests using Geometry Nodes in Blender. There are currently four different biomes, allowing the creation of deciduous forest, jungle, bamboo and snow-covered forest.
